Cosmetic Filling

About Cosmetic Filling

A cosmetic filling is a procedure performed by your dentist to improve the aesthetics and often the function of your teeth. Cosmetic fillings are made from a variety of materials depending on the position of the tooth and the materials that the dentist uses in their office. At Archi Advanced Dental Care we can also use a cosmetic filling to stop the spread of tooth decay and repair a damaged tooth.

There are two types of cosmetic fillings that people recognize, namely white or metallic fillings. White fillings are made of something called composite resin, which is a mixture of plastic and glass; while cosmetic fillings are usually made of mercury and an alloy of silver, tin, and copper.

Composite cosmetic fillings are generally used to fill visible teeth, with the resin being matched to the natural color of the tooth. This allows the filling to mix so that no one looking at the patient’s teeth will notice the difference. Cosmetic amalgam fillings are used to restore tooth function. Large cavities can lead to a number of oral health problems, including additional cavities, infection, and sensitivity or pain when eating. An amalgam filling prevents further damage to the tooth.
